Jo Team

June 27, 2008

Now this provides all you vintage fanatics out there with some great news! As much as rummaging through vintage outlets and other stores for the cutest outfits can be fun, it also can be tedious and time-consuming finding something that can be worn around. Never fear!! Someone has done all the looking for you and stuck it up on Ebay- ready to buy!!!
The Jo Team has created a very successful little business here!

How did you come up with the name?
I really like the go! Team, and the nickname Jo Team just kinda stuck.

Who’s the brains behind the idea- tell me a little about yourself and what it is you do?
I’m 21, I hate outlet shopping and am totally addicted to eBay.

When and how did you start out?
Started over a year ago out of pure boredom and an oversized wardrobe. I took inspiration from my friend Holly and Mint Vintage in Adelaide and together we made vintage love and out popped baby Jo Team Vintage.

Was it hard to actually start?
Not at all. I was dire need of some entertainment and dollars.

What did you do before you began?
I was in my final year of Marketing at the Uni of Adelaide, and working weekends branding indie kids with stamps at the Rocket Bar. Starting Jo Team filled the gaps between 12 hours of uni and long lunches.

Any big plans in the near future?
I’ve just moved to Melbourne and looking for Vintage stores, fashion outlets and other press to team up with. I also need a new male model (my love left me for Sydney) so if you consider yourself a bit of a poser, you might just need to hit me up.

–Random questions–
What song have you been listening to most in the past few weeks?
I am also a composer so I listen to stuff that inspires my work. This week it’s Portishead, Joy Division and Lou Reed.

What one materialistic thing can you not live without?
A mug of peppermint tea and a Chocolate Wheaten.

Do you have a secret name for your favourite inanimate object?
It’s no secret. I have a rockin’ teddy called Dermot.

Have a look at the Ebay site and buy some of these clothes before someone else does- they would be one of a kind so if you love it, you should buy it!

Winifred and Bance

February 27, 2008

Winifred and Bance aka Winnie B- is a clothing store in Perth located on:
850 Beaufort st, Inglewood

The store isn’t a typical clothing store so I’ll let the owner, Dee Carter, explain how it works-
“It’s a vintage boutique…some stock I hunt down and gather from various op-shops, garage sales and markets in Perth and Melbourne as well as some internet. Some stock are new from a couple of local and natinoal designers. Some stock are on consignment from customers.”

She used to be a medical receptionist and before that she was in farming. Fate brought her eyes to an ad she found in the paper the day after she quit her medical receptioninst job, she’s always loved old vintage things and ferreting through them. In the beginning she found it hard financially, physically and she put a particular emphasis emotionally –
Was it hard to start?
“Yup financially, emotionally, physically and emotionally…did i say that already?”

She tells people who want to start their own store to “Give it go…and if at first you don’t suceed? try, try again! Talk to as many people as you can. Don’t be scared to ask the stupid questions!”

And she answered my usual list of random questions!-
What song have you been listening to most over the past few weeks?
The Womats…lets dance to Joy Division.

What’s your favourite hangout place?
Milkd cafe North Perth for coffee, The Rosemount for Funk, markets/op-shops for inspiration, my boyfriends couch for cuddles and my bed for sleep.

Do you have a secret nickname for your car?
Comode…its a commadore. Not very secret really.

What one materialistic thing you know you can’t live without?
coffee Amen

She’s got a good sense of humour too-
Who’s the brains behind the shop?

She has an event in March called “What’s mine is yours”. It basically requires everyone to bring up to 10 items of your own clothes, you pay to get in the store (get a glass of free champagne!) and then you shop around and take the clothes you like for free! More details on her site so check it out.
