Godard is an amazing artist that’s on his way up in the small 8-bit music scene! If you’ve read past articles about Superfast Ferries, Nudge Nudge Nudge and Crystal Castles- you’d understand that it’s a new baby genre that would only probably appeal to a smaller group of people for now.
Godard has done a live set in Melbourne before and as he says in his interview, he’ll be back to show you guys more of what he’s got! What’s even more amazing about this artist is that he creates all this great dance-able beats from the tiny island of Bali which is more isolated.
His sound is very high in energy, really gets you up and dancing!! Full of amazing fast-paced beats and cute melodies.
How did you come up with the name?
I take it from one of my favorite director jean luc godard when im still in film & art school jakarta. Although is not obviously related to music it just seems to have stuck on me.
Tell me a little about yourself?
My name is Fajar Agung Sukarno putra,in short version is Jar-Wo.
I live in Bali n I’m twenty something & Featuring Bimo
What did you do before the starting your music?
Dilettante, bohemian
How did you start out/ was it hard?
It start by coinsidence in late 2000 when I find link at bjork.com called littlesoundj.com, that was a time when audiogalaxy was still free n napster got sued from some record company. Since then, I have spend every waking moment researching everything about to increase my knowledge n expertise concerning every facet of 8bit music n all related n anything connected with it to improve my skills.
One of the main problem is the accessibility of equipment is extremly limited in Indonesia there for I have had to source my equipment from the overseas. This have been costly exercise n I have to wait very long. Now i use gameboy – lsdj,c64 – prophet64, atari2600 – syncart, some bent toys & nintendo made it exclusive by my friend.
The other problem is most of the people in my early time not get it about 8bit music n now they start seems to enjoyed.
So i guess i have some common problem with everybody when they starting out, just need some oppurtunity, process n bit more patient.
Any big plans for the near future?
I’m currenly negotiating with a promoter from Holland to do tour in some place in europe in 2009, also I ve been invited in the end of this year to perform on the east coast australia.
What kind of graphic designs do you do?
